Improving Islamabad’s Infrastructure: CDA Takes Action to Fix Neglected Sectors
On July 11, 2024, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), made a significant move in response to the long-standing concerns of residents in several neglected sectors of Islamabad—E-12, I-16, I-15, I-14, and I-12. These areas have been suffering from poor infrastructure, delayed development, and lack of proper connectivity, leading to frustration for many living there.

Chairman Randhawa’s Visit: A Step Towards Change
To tackle these issues head-on, Chairman Randhawa, along with top CDA officials and other departments, visited these sectors. This visit highlighted the urgency of fixing the situation and reaffirmed the CDA’s commitment to improving living conditions for residents.
Improving Access: New Roads for Better Connectivity
One of the major outcomes of this visit was a directive to create better access routes to these sectors from the Kashmir Highway and Islamabad Motorway. The construction of 16th and 17th Avenues is set to play a crucial role in achieving this.
16th Avenue: Making Life Easier for G-15, I-15, and I-16 Residents
This new road will start between sectors G-15 and G-16, crossing Srinagar Highway to connect residents in I-15 and I-16 to the rest of the city. The road will continue towards Girga Road, benefiting smaller housing societies nearby as well, giving residents quicker, more convenient access to essential services and workplaces.
17th Avenue: Linking Eighteen and the Ring Road
17th Avenue will be a game-changer for those living in housing societies like Eighteen, Faisal Town Phase-1, and University Town. Starting from G-17, it will directly connect to the Ring Road, dramatically improving access to the city for people living in these areas. It’s designed to ease travel and make these communities more accessible to the wider road network of Islamabad.
Signal-Free Roads: Smoother Traffic, Less Congestion
Alongside these new roads, the CDA also aims to develop more signal-free corridors throughout the city. These corridors will help ease traffic flow, reduce bottlenecks, and create a more efficient commuting experience for everyone in Islamabad.
The Benefits of New Infrastructure
The development of 16th and 17th Avenues, as well as the expansion of signal-free roads, will have several key benefits for the residents of these sectors and the city as a whole:
- Less Traffic Congestion: Alternative routes will take the load off busy roads, making daily commutes smoother.
- Faster Commutes: With reduced traffic and more direct routes, people can expect to spend less time on the road.
- Better Connectivity: These new roads will link different sectors and housing societies, creating a more unified and accessible Islamabad.
- Higher Property Values: As accessibility improves, so do property values in surrounding areas, offering financial benefits to homeowners and investors.
A Brighter Future for Islamabad
The CDA’s focus on infrastructure improvements marks a major step forward for neglected sectors in Islamabad. Through the construction of new roads and signal-free corridors, the city is set to become more connected, efficient, and livable, bringing long-overdue relief to residents and laying the foundation for further growth.
